    • Does the fan engage at this time, prior to the FA error?

      • No: Jump down to Control Board Tests

Fan Blade(s): Check to see that the fan blades on the unit are clean and free of debris and clean has necessary. The fan must be able to turn freely, and uniformly. If you see any fan blade damage, or if the fan is shaking erratically you may need to replace the fan blade.

Ice Buildup: If you live in a cooler climate and ice has built up around the fan blades, you can use hot water and/or a hair dryer to try to free the fans from ice.

Control Board Tests

Re-seat the Fan Connections

  • Remove the top from the heat pump (disconnect the power before proceeding)
  • Re-seat the fan connector(s), replace the top then engage the power to the heat pump to see if that solves the problem.
  • If your heat pump has two fans... swap the two connectors and check to see if the problem occurs on the same fan or has moved to the 2nd fan.

Replace Fan Motor: If nothing has solved the problem, the fan motor may need to be replaced. Contact Arctic Heat Pumps.
