Because the air is generally less dense as you increase in elevation the amount of energy in the air becomes less. This means more air is needed to move across the fan coils to extract heat energy. Fortunately the Artic Heat Pump has a variable speed fan and is able to increase the fan speed accordingly. However at altitudes of 7,500 we generally use a 7% derate when calculating the heating out put.
